We have to change what we eat if we are to preserve a livable climate on Earth. More than two-thirds of food-related greenhouse-gas emissions come from meat production. Consumers living in high-income countries where meat is a significant part of the daily diet, but where there are also more options, will have to cut back and adopt a more plant-based diet. If we all skipped meat two days per week, reducing our consumption by at least 25%, we’d reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 1% per year and free up grazing land while improving our health.
