Eco Sox is a company that emphasizes quality products that keep our planet in mind. By using
yarns made from bamboo, merino wool, Tencel lyocell, and eco-friendly upcycled yarns from discarded products, Eco Sox helps reduce environmental harm.
While most socks use cotton or recycled plastics, Eco Sox uses vicose from bamboo. The bamboo along with the materials listed above are all decomposable.
I received three pairs of socks in the mail. The socks arrived in an eco-friendly package which always makes me happy.
The instant feeling of the socks was soft and plush. Truly, these are one of the softness pairs of socks I have worn. I was afraid the softness would fade quickly after one wash. However, the sock remains soft even after three washes so far. The socks are breathable while still keeping my foot warm.
I received a medium since my foot size is a women’s 6. However, the socks are a bit big on my foot with extra material. It might be best to go down one size.
The only environmental downside I can see to these socks is the amount of energy it takes to produce these. On their website, Eco Sox explains that it does require more energy to manufacture cellulose fibers than it does for cotton. However, they highlight all the energy that goes into growing, sustaining, and harvesting the cotton before it enters the processing stage. So, we are at a toss up for which is more sustainable, but cotton crops have come under a cloud recently because of unfair labor practices in some regions, a problem that bamboo has generally avoided.
And, finally, if you’re worried about competing with pandas, who eat bamboo, don’t be! Eco Sox is clear on their website that the bamboo they use does not affect the panda bears. Moso bamboo (the type used in EcoSox) is not edible for pandas. So, rest assured the pandas will not be affected by your feet being cozy.
Lastly, Eco Sox has teamed up with One Tree Planted. For purchases with the One Tree Planted symbol on it, a tree will be planted. Thus far, Eco Sox has planted over 10,000 trees as a part of this program. This is an easy way for our eco warriors to give back while consuming.
