We understand the importance of reducing landfill and many of us want to compost, but kitchen containers have to be emptied frequently to avoid odors and insects. If you live in an apartment or your nearest compost bin is inconvenient, take advantage of your freezer! Put a compostable brown bag (most are) in the freezer and throw in your banana peels, wilted greens and unwanted leftovers. The freezer will keep them from decomposing and reduce the number of trips you need to make to the compost, where you can drop them in like large environmentally-friendly ice cubes.
